Hosted by the Ministry of Interior, Republic of Cyprus

Theme of the meeting: Cyprus is changing – the new era for the building permitting procedures

We are pleased to share the highlights of the recently concluded CEBC Business Meeting No. 69, which took place in the scenic town of Peyia, Paphos, Cyprus, from October 13 to 15, 2024. The event was hosted by the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Cyprus, with the theme “Cyprus is changing – the new era for the building permitting procedures”.

The meeting commenced with a warm welcome from CEBC President Mr Sergio Vazquez and an official opening by the Mr Constantinos Ioannou, Minister of Interior, followed by a welcome address by Mr Alkis Dikaios, President of the Cyprus Architects Association. Over two engaging days, attendees were treated to a series of insightful presentations and discussions. Key topics included “Cyprus Architecture,” presented by Ms Irene Hadjisavva, “Reform of Building Regulations” by Mr Kyriacos Kouros, and the “Introduction of e-Delivery for building permits,” led by Ms Andriana Patsalosavvi and Ms Lygia Lambrianou.

The event also featured workshops that delved into liability in the construction sector on a joint initiative between IBQC and CEBC. Additionally, the meeting featured several presentations addressing key issues recently emerging in CEBC member states, as part of the regular Members Update session. We also had the opportunity to attend compelling presentations on OECD projects in Italy and Lithuania, delivered by Ms Margarita Escobar and Mr Johannes Klein.

A significant moment of the meeting was the election of a new Vice President. The General Assembly approved Mr Steven Scott on this position. Additionally, we are happy to announce that the CEBC community has been enriched by two new members: the Welsh Government and the Escuela Técnica Superior de Edificación from Spain.

We extend our gratitude to all attendees, speakers, and hosts for their contributions to making CEBC Business Meeting No. 69 a successful and memorable event, continuing to foster international collaboration in building control.
