Theme of meeting: Changing Construction Legislation in Finland

We are delighted to share the highlights of the recently concluded Consortium of European Building Control (CEBC) Business Meeting No. 67, which took place in the picturesque city of Helsinki, Finland, from October 22 to 24, 2023. Meeting was hosted by the Finnish Society of Building Inspectors (RTY) and centred around the theme of “Changing Construction Legislation in Finland.”

Sergio Vazquez welcomed the meeting participants – CEBC President and Risto Levanto – Chair of The Finnish Society of Building Inspectors (RTY). The gathering was graced by the presence of Anni Sinnemäki, Deputy Mayor for Urban Environment in Helsinki, who delivered an enlightening introductory lecture. Subsequently, the audience was treated to a series of captivating presentations by accomplished speakers. These sessions covered a diverse range of topics including among others: “Finnish new Construction Act”, “Carbon Footprint and Carbon Handprint according to Finnish Legislation”, “IFC to become a mandatory Building Permit Document in Finland – new task for Building Control”, “RAVA3Pro Development Project results”, Reducing the Carbon Footprint at the Oulu Housing Fair 2025 – How Building Supervision guides and helps to achieve the goals”, “Position following major earthquake in Türkiye on 6 February 2023”, “Update on the use of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) in the UK and across Europe”, “Key changes in building legislation across the UK on 1st October 2023”.

Within the meeting, the General Assembly of CEBC also conducted the election of its Policy Committee Members. The elected PC Officers include Sergio Vazquez (President), Philip O’Brien (Vice President), Marcin Cudak (Secretary General), Diane Marshall, Kevin Dawson, Saša Galonja, Kyriacos Kouros, Steven Scott.

This event was a testament to the significance of international collaboration and knowledge exchange in the field of building control and construction legislation. We express our sincere thanks to all participants, speakers, and hosts for making CEBC Business Meeting No. 67 a resounding success.
